Gorseinon Development Trust Ltd has been set up to guide the direction of the regeneration programme in Gorseinon. This follows the closure of the Corus plant, Bryngwyn, as well as significant redundancies at Valeo, Corus and 3M’s over recent years. The inaugural meeting of the Trust was held on Wednesday 12th February 2003.
The Trust succeeds the Regeneration Forum, which, itself achieved a great deal in its first year. The Trust will be driving the regeneration strategy which has been drawn up to address the key issues facing the community. A £4 million cash injection from the Welsh Assembly Government has helped to kick start this process.
Setting up a Trust which is inclusive and representative of the local community will ensure the sustainability of the regeneration programme beyond the 3 year life span of the current funding package. The Trust’s aim is to ensure the long term economic and social well being of the residents of the regeneration area.
In support of the Trust, Beth Winkley has been appointed to co-ordinate the overall Regeneration programme for Gorseinon.
