Gorseinon is an established community, approximately 9 miles from Swansea City Centre. It is strategically located with good road links to the M4 via junction 47, to Llanelli in the west via the A484 and Swansea City centre in the south, via the B4296. Gorseinon serves as a major residential settlement, a district shopping centre and provides significant job opportunities at a number of locations in a variety of sectors.

The Gorseinon area has recently suffered a number of serious job losses, with two major employers in the area, Valeo and Corus closing and 3M(UK)Ltd announcing significant redundancies.  In order to mitigate the effects of the job losses, the Welsh Assembly Government has allocated a £4m funding package to specifically support the physical economic regeneration of the Gorseinon area.
