We are pleased to announce that a massive investment has been won from the Welsh Assembly to transform part of the former site of Bryngwyn Steelworks into the Pentre Menter Enterprise Village. The Objective One and Regeneration Programme are jointly funding the £3.7 Million scheme. The venture marks a remarkable change in fortune for the Gorseinon area, since being hit by many job loses from the closure of the Bryngwyn Steel works and Valeo Car components plant, as well as cuts to employment being made by 3Ms. The Village is set to become the jewel in the Crown of Gorseinon. The development will offer specialised training facilities, business units, business start up units, conference facility, a crèche, a cafe and a juice bar to promote healthy eating. A proposed housing scheme to create 371 new houses will be developed by Persimmon Homes on the site next to the Pentre Menter Community facility. There has already been 123 jobs created through major investment in the town by the Development Trust. The Trust is set to work on the scheme and will be in partnership with Gorseinon College in terms of meeting the training needs of the community. Talks are currently taking place with other potential partners to get involved with the venture. Gorseinon Regeneration co-ordinator Beth Winkley, said "This is certainly a good news story for Gorseinon. Pentre Mentre will meet the needs of both the business and residential communities of the area."
